Abstract :
We report on the implementation of a flexible Reed-Solomon codec using a field programmable gate array (FPGA) for use in a mobile communication system employing adaptive coding. The number of correctable errors can be changed in real time. A modified Euclidean algorithm is used with the number of correctable errors as an input parameter. The very high-speed integrated circuit hardware description language (VHDL) design can generate a codec for any Galois field size and field generator
