  • Abstract
Conventional studies aimed at detecting non-technical losses in electrical energy distribution systems are based on performing energy balances in each substation, circuit or transformation point. Energy balances in transformation points allow us to focalize losses. However, we would have to make measurements in each transformer in order to compare the amount of energy that has been delivered with the energy that has been billed. The EDC system contains over 15,000 transformation points. Therefore, it would be extremely complicated, both from the technical and economic point of view, to make measurements in each of these devices. This paper describes a state estimation methodology in real time for each transformation point. This allows us to determine the areas with the greatest amount of nontechnical losses across the radial distribution system. An example of the application of this methodology is provided using a real 12.47 kV distribution circuit with 20 transformation points
