Situations and Tendency of Intelligent Transportation System in Europe

With the worsening traffic situation in major cities around the world, intelligent transportation system (ITS) has been developed rapidly for alleviation of urban traffic congestion, environmental pollution and traffic safety all over the world. However, the development of ITS is unbalanced in different countries and areas because of difference levels of economy, science and technology, and differences of traffic policy and political cultural background. Therefore, the general situation and tendency of ITS development in Europe have been discussed in this study to be used as references for the development of ITS in China.
