Abstract
This paper describes the configuration and experimental results of a packet mode OFDM modem which is developed for 5 GHz high-data-rate wireless LANs. The prototype, implemented by programmable gate array devices, realizes 1/4 scale operation of 20 Mbit/s transmission. It employs DQPSK-OFDM modulation using 48 subcarriers with convolutional coding of rate 3/4 and it also employs a burst synchronization circuit which performs symbol timing detection and carrier frequency offset compensation. The experimental results show that it achieves good packet error rate performance (0.1% or less) in multipath channels with RMS delay spread of 100 ns
