Abstract
A teaching and research laboratory simulator (TRLS) has been developed as a tool to validate digital models of electric power systems. The simulator includes synchronous machines, transformers, transmission system and dynamic and static loads. This paper describes the simulator and presents some recorded transients of a synchronous machine. Some variables of the system, registered during the starting of an induction motor, are compared with the results of a digital simulation program. Also, the effect of the representation of electric loads in the results of a transient stability program, is studied using the parameters of the simulator.
