Abstract
We present a time-domain simulation framework for next generation shipboard integrated power system networks based on intelligent power routers (IPR´s). Our first experimental results evidence that by distributing the network intelligence and control functions across multiple IPR´s, the survivability, security, reliability and re-configurability of the ship power system can be significantly improved. Each IPR has embedded intelligence, allowing it to switch power lines, shed loads, and receive/broadcast local state variable information to and from other neighboring IPR´s. These information exchanges allow the routers to coordinate among themselves to reconfigure the network and supply energy to critical subsystems in the ship such as weapons, communications and navigation. Our initial simulations evidence that the power network can be reconfigured in a decentralized manner within practical reconfiguration times
