Abstract
There are no clinical engineering centers in Venezuelan hospitals to date. This has led to a lack of maintenance programs and inadequate technology transfer within the health care system. As an answer to this problem, Simon Bolivar University, through its research and development foundation (FUNINDES) and jointly with a private company, created a service enterprise that can provide clinical engineering support to local hospitals and clinics. The considerations that led to this approach are described.<>
