The evolution of standardisation, from a digital industry perspective

This article addresses the current challenges of standardisation in an era of digital convergence, where sectorial boundaries between the IT, the Broadcast and the Telecommunications industries have started vanishing. The challenges of convergence are described in terms of the sharing of resources and application domains, with their consequences for standardisation. A synthetic overview of standardisation options is then given.
