Abstract :
Design of an all-digital 5th derivative Gaussian Pulse Generator (PG) for the full band (3.1GHz-10.6 GHz) impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) transmitter is investigated in this paper. The pulse generator is tunable in both, the amplitude and the duration of the pulses. As the impulse radio-based generator operates in burst mode with low duty cycle it has low power consumption with no static power dissipation. The presented circuit was designed in a 0.18μm UMC CMOS technology with 1.8V supply voltage. Simulation results showed spectrum that fully complies with the corresponding FCC spectral mask. The pulse generator has been evaluated for the best performance supporting on-off keying modulation and 100 MHz pulse repetition frequency (PRF).
