Abstract
This paper presents one method to detect risky contingencies and to evaluate the steady state security of the Mexican electrical power system. The process is based on power flows studies for identifying potentially harmful contingencies. The performance of the method is evaluated for different supposed operating conditions using part of the complete Mexican power system. The results are the support for power system dispatchers to avoid voltage collapses or the interruption of power supply
