Abstract :
Wireless sensor networks pose strict bandwidth and power constraints. In multimedia Sensor Networks classical rate distortion function may not be directly applied since timely delivery of multimedia content in sensor network may necessitate consideration of energy consumption and transmission rate in the process. Both these factors should be incorporated in classical R-D function to achieve best operational rate-distortion operating regions. In this work, we analyze performance of wireless multimedia sensor network (WMSN) in terms of delay, power, and rate requirements with these dimensions incorporated in classical R-D function. In contrast to past work where transmission rate is controlled at MAC layer, we analyze and control rate at application layer. To the best of our knowledge, the delay-rate-distortion analysis for wireless multimedia sensor network is under explored. Firstly we formulate the analytical model for delay-rate-distortion and after that model will be validated by simulations in TOSSIM.
