Abstract
MIDS, a military communication system, was one of Marconi´s first ventures into the use of commercial components (including plastic encapsulated microcircuits). The adoption of commercial components without any sacrifice in Reliability represented a significant achievement for Marconi and has set the stage for the development of systems that are lighter and have more leading edge technology than that which could be obtained with military components
