Abstract :
Pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) characterized by specific physical parameters are shown to stimulate the protein-synthesizing activity of in-vitro treated rat skin. The concomitant increase in amino acid transport across the cell membrane appears to be responsible for the stimulation of protein synthesis due to the increased availability of intracellular amino acids. Since changes in the ionic composition of the incubation buffers are capable of completely reversing the PEMF effects, it would appear that the observed metabolic effects may well be obtained through ionic modifications induced by PEMF.<>
