Abstract
A frequency-response-based characterisation methodology for piezoelectric transformers that determines the equivalent circuit component values is presented, thus, facilitating the design and simulation of piezoelectric transformer based converters within circuit simulation packages such as SPICE. Using measurements from an LCR meter and the frequency response of the gain characteristic, the transformer can be characterised in the vicinity of the resonant frequency of a particular vibration mode. The methodology is experimentally verified using measurements from a Rosen-type step-up transformer.
