Abstract
The recent growth in wireless communications has brought about high-speed and location-free access to content. However, we still experience disconnection especially when we carry out handover between two discrete communication areas or when we use short-range wireless devices. To support such intermittent connectivity, the concept of opportunistic communication has been introduced. However, the problem in opportunistic communication we have to consider is the limited connection time between end nodes and access nodes. In this paper, we come up with two solutions to this. The first is aggregated data transmission: if two or more nodes in the same communication coverage are requesting the same data from the same node, the transmissions could be aggregated to a single transmission. The second approach is using predictive information to decide transmission timing appropriately. Based on these, we designed a novel scheme to control transmission timing using information on predicted movement from mobile nodes. Our scheme brings about efficient bandwidth utilization and a highly successful receive ratio, which we verified through computer simulations.
