Abstract :
Science and engineering are the best all-round educational preparation for the next century. In this paper the author gives his views on the design of the future of science and engineering education for which he believes the goal should include doubling the number of engineering graduates. Engineering educators should adopt the goal, adjust their attitudes, stop the engineering family feuding, and market the profession systemically and systematically. They should accept the obligation of the engineer and personally look about for opportunities to spur youth to an interest and desire to learn engineering. They should support scholarship awards for engineering students. They should cultivate the "seeds" that have been planted by groups who have already embarked on the work to capture more graduates of science and engineering. Engineering educators need to do these things both personally and collectively.
