Abstract :
Model Driven Engineering (MDE) is a new paradigm that has been proposed to deal with the design of current complex applications. Complexity is also the tendency within the automation domain, where integration, reuse, flexibility and optimization are, among others, requirements demanded to adapt to a rapidly changing and competitive market. MDE relies on the concept of model, as a way to represent the relevant aspects of a system from a point of view, abstracting the irrelevant issues. The final design emerges through the different phases of the development cycle, and this can be achieved through model transformations. The use of models within the development cycle implies the need of modeling language implementations offering not only system descriptions but also model validation in order to assure design consistency. This paper focuses on the definition of modeling languages as well as on validation mechanisms using manufacturing standards. The steps to define Markup Languages using CAEX (Computer Aided Engineering eXchange) and MathML (a language for defining mathematical constraints) are defined and applied to a multi-view description of a manufacturing cell.
