Abstract :
Bidirectional infrastructure-to-vehicle (I2V) communication applications are seen as one of the key challenges to ensure safe and efficient driving through the increasingly overloaded road infrastructure. One of the recent developments in this respect is the implementation of co-operative traffic management systems, based on the establishment of a bidirectional wireless I2V communication link for transmission of `legally binding´ messages into the vehicle (e.g. speed limit, incident warning, weather warning). By ensuring high accuracy, robustness, and reliability in terms of location, content and time the information transmitted via this I2V communication link has the potential to get legal character and can serve as source for Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) systems.
