Abstract :
This paper presents a monitoring system that performs data aggregation at device level to reduce data transfers and provide relevant information at different levels of a manufacturing system. Monitoring systems that are able to detect areas where processes can be improved and provide relevant information related with devices in the production system. These monitoring systems are needed to increase the efficiency of current manufacturing systems due to new global markets tightened competition. This information has to be provided to production and maintenance personnel to make improvements in the systems, requiring from monitoring systems to be able to manage large amount of data to generate useful information. Data aggregation has been widely used in different fields to reduce data transference and stored data, and to create new information based on received data from different sources. Therefore, data aggregation is proposed for monitoring systems at device level to generate relevant information related with the devices. A use case is provided to illustrate the aggregation principles at device level and compare it with other levels of aggregation.
