Abstract :
This paper gives a short overview on narrowband access networks and the need for enhancing these networks with ADSL transmission techniques. After a short introduction to ADSL, the current status of the standardization process for ADSL is reflected. A major open topic in the physical layer is ADSL over ISDN transmission.
