Abstract :
This study, using the navigating simulator manufactured by TRANSAS for big ship, explored the navigating capability of offing captains under 8 conditions, based on the indexes of the number of collisions, their heart rates, etc. The results suggested that the number of collisions and the heart rate were significantly affected by the navigating capability. Results of this research were expected to provide both theoretical and technical support for the safety education, skill training, selection and evaluation of captains in China, thus improving the core competence of shipping enterprises in China
