Abstract
The PELCOM (Pan-European Land Cover Monitoring) project aimed at developing a consistent methodology to derive land cover information on a European scale from Earth Observation data for environmental monitoring. A major achievement was the establishment of a 1-km Pan-European Land Cover Database that has been applied in various environmental and climate studies. For this purpose, multi-spectral and multi-temporal NOAA-AVHRR satellite imagery and ancillary data have been integrated. Validation has shown a good accuracy
