Abstract :
This paper is an overview of the factors to be considered in designing a graphical operator interface, in order to make the interface more usable. The factors considered are: understanding the end user; functionality; consistency; ease of use; clarity including correct use of colour; visual harmony (balanced display); text; and ISO 9241, usability standard.
