Abstract :
This work presents a new filtering method for the Pan-Tompkins algorithm. The Haar wavelet is substituted for the bandpass filter commonly used in the algorithm and is applied to sample the data from two popular databases. We found that the application of the Haar wavelet as a filtering step produces a much clearer signal after the integration phase of the Pan-Tompkins algorithm and that peak detection is comparable to that of the bandpass approach. The benefits of using the Haar wavelet includes simpler computations and its hardware implementation is cheaper than that of the bandpass filter since there is no multiplication necessary.
