Abstract :
We present a wind turbine torque controller that incorporates approximate-angular-acceleration feedback. In contrast, the classical wind turbine torque controller generates a control signal that is proportional to the square of the turbine´s angular velocity. We modify the classical torque controller by including an approximate-angular-acceleration term. This modified controller is shown numerically to capture more energy than the classical controller under unsteady (i.e., time-varying) wind speeds.
