Abstract
A novel method of tracking the poles of the linear prediction (LP) model of speech is described. This uses a new, real (rs ) plane in which z -plane pole-pairs are represented by a single point. The method reduces the frame-to-frame correlation permutations which need to be considered and avoids the problems which occur when Z -plane complex-conjugate pairs turn real. Divergence problems associated with iterative methods of root extraction are considered, as is the reduction of frame size by filtering of the LP coefficients
