Abstract :
Web GIS has become an indispensable tool for managing, analyzing and decision making by seamlessly combining both spatial and non-spatial data. Open-source software has the advantages of low cost, high stability and security. So it has been chosen by the small and medium-sized Web GIS project. A complete stack for building Web GIS solutions can include a client-server application framework, a Web mapping engine supporting cartographic rendering functionality and basic GIS capabilities, data storage solutions, and additional tools extending or enhancing the basic GIS capabilities of the mapping engine. This paper puts forward an optimized Web GIS system. First, the article introduced the basic principle of Web GIS then it selected the open-source software: open-source Operating System Linux, open-source application software Apache, Geo Server, PostGIS/MySQL. After that, it constructed the Web GIS server with the chosen software and discussed the server´s work flow. Finally, it introduced an application of Web GIS, the Web GIS data expression, database link, and the extension of the client side are implemented in this system.
