Abstract :
The article consists of a PowerPoint presentation on Polymer and silicon nanophotonics. The areas discussed include: silicon based micro- and nano-photonic devices; CMOS optical modulator; photonic crystal waveguide; electro-optical polymer modulator; directional coupler; holographic fabrication; hybrid silicon evanescent laser; and optical interconnection. The paper concludes that compatibility with silicon CMOS fabrication process is crucial to both hybrid and monolithic integration and silicon nano-photonics may play a significant role for on-chip interconnect where power consumption can be drastically reduced.
