Abstract :
With the merger of high-performance and low-power requirements, designing efficient parallel and heterogeneous systems is becoming more complex due to the lack of a systematic way to analyze various performance-energy tradeoffs. We propose an analysis framework with a new metric named energy-resource efficiency (ERE), which evaluates and systematically synthesizes performance-energy tradeoffs in a system. We assess our framework by incorporating both performance and energy improvements into a system, and then evaluating the system using our framework. Our experimental results demonstrate that ERE illustratively portrays the overall improvements and the performance energy tradeoffs, in a way not done by traditional evaluation frameworks.
