Abstract :
Infostations is a new system concept proposed to support "many time, many where" wireless messaging services. Three basic scenarios, sit-through, walk-through, and drive-through are used to describe the user mobility in Infostations. In order to handle channel access and allocation, retransmission, and adaptive transmission rate adjustment in Infostations, we propose an intelligent transmission protocol called WINMAC in this paper. The design and implementation issues of WINMAC for a prototype Infostation system based on a commercial radio chip set for 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN are described.
