Abstract :
A cost-effective gain control scheme for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers is presented. By sinusoidally modulating the pump laser and monitoring its light at the end of active medium, gain control is obtained, resulting in very cost-effective realization of gain controlled optical amplifiers.
