Abstract :
The arc behavior and its propagation mechanism on pre-contaminated insulator surfaces covered with ice were investigated and are presented in this paper. Using a simplified cylindrical physical model, the arc characteristics were determined. Intervening factors and parameters such as arc length and ice thickness were studied. These results will serve to extend the mathematical model previously developed at CIGELE for the prediction of the flashover voltage of pre-contaminated insulators covered with ice.
