Continuous and pulsed X-ray induced partial discharges: similarities and differences

Abstract :
The partial discharge behavior in voids when induced by continuous and pulsed X-ray is investigated. For this work, epoxy samples with artificially generated voids were prepared. The experimental setup used allows simultaneous application of applied voltage and X-ray in the sample. Different values of the X-ray intensity were used during the tests. Phase resolved partial discharge was used for data acquisition and analysis by using statistical distributions. Quantitative parameters such as peak value of apparent charge and total apparent charge per cycle were determinate. Similarities and differences between these two X-ray irradiation modes are exposed, showing the potentiality of this technique as a tool for dielectric materials diagnosis
