Abstract :
Two types of low loss (/spl sim/0.21 dB/km) dispersion shifted fibers with large effective area over 76 /spl mu/m/sup 2/ have been designed and fabricated by the VAD technique. These fibers can greatly reduced the performance degradation due to fiber nonlinear effects in WDM long-haul terrestrial and submarine cable systems.
