Abstract
With the progress of related development tools and methods, the knowledge-based system is applied broadly in multisensor data fusion problems especially in situation assessment (SA) and threat assessment (TA) domain. This paper discusses in detail a particularly implemented architecture of knowledge-based system (KBS), the blackboard architecture. The blackboard architecture provides a method to model the way a group of experts would attempt to solve the SA or TA problems cooperatively through the communication among multiple knowledge sources. This paper also analyses its advantages and disadvantages, and one practical example is presented
