Abstract
The accurate identification of the mapping between the cross-direction (CD) actuators and the scanned profiles of paper CD properties requires reliable processing of test data which takes into account paper shrinkage and misalignment. This paper describes a new tool which can automate this identification process. The new tool covers all aspects of CD process identification including excitation of the paper machine CD actuators, collection and processing of data, and maintenance of the identified process model and test setup as grade-dependent data. The tool has been tested on existing CD control systems with various types of actuators and has successfully identified new mapping and tuning parameters
