Abstract :
Flexible manufacturing processes in modern industrial operations have resulted from the need to alter work protocols constantly without the need for massive reprogramming of computerized functions. Preliminary testing has shown commercial PC-based voice processing to be a successful interface for the effective control of flexible manufacturing systems. Current testing has attempted to determine the level of effectiveness of voice processing in a noisy industrial environment. Noise-processed speech is compared to unprocessed speech for speech-processor input in varying degrees of industrial-type noise. System degradation is analyzed in terms of the number of errors in word recognition.<>
