Abstract
A mathematical tool is presented which simulates predetermined movements of the hands and fingers using quaternions. The movements considered include: picking up a pen, using a fork to eat, and eating an apple. The algorithm developed by quaternions to simulate successive rotations and translations is better than matrix methods used for the same purpose.<>
