Abstract
A framework was presented, which could rapidly establish the basic packaging scheme of cab and corresponding design tools by simulating the main driving postures. The factors need to be considered in the simulation are analyzed, as well as cab packaging parameters. With reference to the joint probability distribution of multidimensional anthropometry variables, Monte Carlo simulation was used to generate sample populations for each gender respectively using the 1988 ANSUR database. Drivers´ main postures were simulated currently using UMTRI´s CPM model, which acquired the distributions of body characteristic points of driver populations. The theories for establishing the cab basic packaging scheme and corresponding design tools based on the distributions of body characteristic points of driver populations were studied. With the simulation using two real cars´ packaging parameters, the results showed good accordance with those calculated according to SAE recommend practices.
