Abstract :
Summary form only given. We report the first observation of intense visible upconversion luminescence from Cs/sub 3/Lu/sub 2/Cl/sub 9/:Er/sup 3+/ crystals excited by a 1.53-/spl mu/m tunable cw diode laser amplified by an erbium-doped fiber amplifier. Spectral and dynamic properties between 15 and 300 K as well as changes along the chloride sample series are discussed.
