Abstract :
The cross-domain traffic caused by the P2P overlay networks congests the costly inter-domain link. The analysis of BitTorrent packet traces captured in the ISP network shows more than 70% traffic forwarded to other network domains and the high traffic redundancy of up to 68%. In this paper, we investigate the packet cache router to eliminate BitTorrent redundant traffic traversing multiple domain networks and implement its packet cache processing as linux kernel module. We evaluate the packet cache router in the multiple domain network configuration using the network testbed deployed in the actual network links. The experimental results confirm that the traffic can be reduced by about 80% for the repetitive data packets.
