Abstract
In this paper an algorithm based on the reluctance motor (RM) stator current angle is introduced. The algorithm investigates four cases. Two of these cases are mainly with optimizing power factor and efficiency while the other two are concerned with torque optimization. An observer based on the RM load angle and speed error is used to discriminate between transient and steady state conditions. A comparison between the two proposed torque optimization methods is carried out featuring the advantages of cage-less RM designs. An experimental drive system was implemented to verify the simulation results, Simulation and experimental results are found to be in good agreement
