Abstract
Summary form only given. We describe a femtosecond Cr:forsterite laser pumped by a high-power diode bar through a double-clad laser fiber that effectively conditions the output of the diode bar while shifting the wavelength to an absorption band of the Cr/sup 4+/ ion. Mode-locking is initiated and stabilized by a semiconductor saturable absorber.
