Abstract
Car-following and lane-changing models are important for traffic flow study. Some parameters in existing models are believed to be related to driver´s characteristics, such as experience, age, personality, and culture. This paper conducted an experimental study to measure some key parameters of six typical driver groups characterized by their experience and attitude towards risks. Based on the measured parameters and revised models, a microscopic traffic simulation system, with defined types and numbers of driver agents, was developed. The simulation system and method can be used to study the effects of administrative and technical countermeasures aiming at improving traffic flow safety and efficiency performance.
