Abstract :
The concept of adaptive loop filtering is applied to the class of the polarity-DPLL synchronizers to obtain both fast acquisition and reliable steady-state tracking simultaneously. The loop-filter´s adaptation mechanism is modeled as a finite state machine and its performance characteristics are numerically obtained in terms of state transition probabilities. Also, the filter´s statistical behavior during soft-switchover from tracking to acquisition mode and vice-versa, is qualitatively evaluated by using short time open-loop hypotheses and exercising first-order Markov chain analysis
