Abstract :
An LED driver without electrolytic capacitor, which the LEDs are driven by the proposed pulsating current, is presented. In doing so, film capacitors can be adopted instead of electrolytic capacitors to achieve a long power supplies´ lifetime. Most importantly, the proposed LED driver can not only achieve a near-unity input power factor, but also very low voltage stress. The control circuit is very easy. It is particularly suitable for public LED lighting systems, such as road lighting systems. Implementation circuit and simulation results are presented in this paper to confirm the validity of the proposal.
