Abstract :
The high cost of Electric Vehicles (EVs), their low driving range and their long charge time limit the automotive market share. In this paper, a new concept of slow/fast low-cost on-board battery charger for EV or plug-in hybrid EV, developed by Valeo, is presented. The major innovation is that a same converter device operates in the charger and traction modes. In charger mode, the electric machine windings operate as a filter. The aim of the paper is to develop an overall control for this concept in order to achieve both operating modes (charger and traction).
