Abstract
The scattering of plane wave by a metal grating is rigorously analyzed by incorporating the finite conductivity of metal strips as the imaginary part of a complex dielectric constant. The distributions of field within the metal strips are determined and the absorption of energy by the grating is evaluated. Numerical results are given to illustrate the effect of structure parameters, particularly for the case of very thin gratings
