Abstract
Fe-Co-B/[Ni-Fe/Si] soft magnetic underlayer (SUL), with very high magnetic anisotropy field Hk of above 380 Oe as well as high saturation magnetization 4πMs of 22 kG, was successfully deposited using a facing targets sputtering apparatus at room temperature. Surface domain structure was observed by optical surface analyzer. The method to induce orientation of Hk to the cross track direction in the SUL deposited on disk substrate was investigated. Results indicate that the underlayer is suitable for low noise type SUL of perpendicular magnetic recording media.
