  • Abstract
This work presents techniques for the detection and fault directional discrimination using the information contained in the high frequency components generated by faults to the medium voltage (MV) distribution networks with distributed generation (DG). Therefore, these schemes offer high speed characteristics, less than ¼ cycle of fundamental component power frequency. Both schemes are developed by applying discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based on the Daubechies wavelet. The proposed algorithms are performed by using MATLAB™ environment. The test distribution network under different fault conditions has been simulated using ATP/EMTP software. The results of digital simulation studies reveal the feasibility of implementing the proposed protection algorithms.
